Walmart is facing challenges in apparel, even as the company continues to make strides in developing private brands:
“While lack of must-have toys and changing children’s play patterns have hurt holiday toy business industrywide in the U.S. and also affected category performance at other retailers including Walmart rival Target, Walmart’s U.S. apparel shortfall goes beyond the sluggish fashion demand that’s also hurt department stores and other apparel retailers. After all, Target, known for its cheap chic pitch, posted a 5% jump in holiday apparel sales in November and December.”
