History of “Smiley Face” Exhibit at Walmart Museum

If you are in Northwest Arkansas, stop by the Walmart Museum for its exhibit on the Smiley Face, its long-time brand icon. Introduced in 1989 by a local store manager as a promotional sticker for kids, Smiley Face became a national “mascot” for the retailer in both in-store and external marketing promotions.

While Smiley has occasionally gone into retirement, 5NewsOnline.com reports that he’ll be re-joining the Walmart team this year.

The Walmart Museum

Never been to the Walmart Museum? You should go. . .and take the family! Admission is always free, and it is a great way to learn more about the history of a retail empire. After your visit, shop for souvenirs and old-timey products in Walton’s  5&10, then enjoy a sweet treat at the Spark Cafe soda fountain.

After your visit, walk around downtown Bentonville to take in this growing community’s amazing cultural and culinary offerings.

Limited Time Exhibit

While Walmart is known for the consistency of its everyday low pricing, the Walmart Museum does have to swap out its exhibits periodically. The Smiley Face exhibit will run until January 31st, 2017.
